They stopped in front of an upscale condominium complex within a couple minute’s drive. He called it his place. It was lovely, but Lyza knew this wasn’t where he lived. He would be shocked to know how much she’d learned about him over the years, primarily by happenstance and lately through Heather’s connection to Erin. His lie threw her off some. Ultimately, she decided that it didn’t matter.

She was here for mind-blowingly hot sex. Her driving force was pure lust. Though, there was a teeny-tiny nagging feeling in the pit of her belly. She had held a long-term belief about what a good person he was. His telling her a lie didn’t sit right with her. She knew he didn’t live with Alicia. Maybe she had stuff at his house. Did he live with someone else that he kept from everyone? That hardly seemed possible. His life was a bit of an open book, at least with a particular set. He was a bachelor, so maybe his house was dirty and off-limits to company. Lyza told herself she really didn’t mind the two-home scenario. After all, she had passed the cabin off as her home tonight.

When he opened the door, he said, “Welcome home.”

This obviously wasn’t his home. Everything looked brand new. The decor was excellent in that modern, tasteful, but generic way that many preferred. There were no personal photos, artwork, workout equipment, books, or anything lying about. Maybe he kept it for a sex nest, but it was pretty dull for that, too. One would’ve expected one of those sex swings or at least an erotic color scheme.

Maybe I’m not quite good enough, rich enough, or high maintenance enough for him to take home. This was Lyza’s whole problem with dating, with anything more than casual sex and men, period.

If I’m not good enough, then that’s fine with me. I’m super inflexible about being changed. I live however I want, with no “who I want” except my dog. I eat what, when, and where I want. Vacation, last-minute weekend trip, daytime adventure, I’m in! No permission is required. I’ve always been flirtatious, not to the outrageous point. It’s just for fun. I am who I am, and I do what I want. Nate fostered this in me, let me grow and change, and enjoyed all the fun with me. I could always be myself. I am unwilling to be anything else. So if I need to be something different or more to be invited to someone’s home, then I’m out. I’m pretty sure I’m about to ruin this night with my thinking if I don’t stop it now.

Lyza realized it was time to change her internal tune when he asked, “So, how do you like it?”

“Um, honestly, I don’t. The view is nice, and the space is open and welcoming. The place doesn’t feel like home at all, though.”

He laughed so hard that she wasn’t sure he would recover. Still, he didn’t offer any explanation except to say, “I kind of thought that your response would be something like that.
