“Good Morning Mrs. Peirano,” Astrid said over the rim of her coffee as I made my way into the kitchen the next morning.

“You are far too stealthy for my liking, Astrid,” I said with a hand over my heart, because fucking hell, that woman had already scared me one too many times.

“Eventful evening?” Astrid said knowingly, and I felt my entire body flush beet red. I couldn’t even come up with a response as my mouth opened and closed like a damn fish. Because how on Earth did this woman know? Did I have sex hair?

“I stay here from time to time when my grandchildren aren’t in town,” she said, reading my expression, and I had absolutely no idea. From the silence of the house that I always experienced, I would not have guessed anyone else was in the house. I guess I always assumed the security guards Kade hired on were insanely good at staying out of sight and light on their toes.

My bravery that I had last night about calling out Kade’s name and telling myself I didn’t give a damn who heard seemed to be biting me in the ass.

“He’s not all bad you know,” Astrid said as she set a cup of coffee in front of me, just the way I liked it. I could marry this woman and her undying attention to detail.

“Who?” I asked, finally piecing together that she had said something when she gave me this magical bean juice.

“Mr. Luchetti,” she answered as if it was an obvious answer. “I’ve known him for many years, and it might be hard to believe but he does have a heart underneath all that grumpiness.”

I laughed because if there was one thing about Kade, it was that he was known to be grumpy, especially in the mornings I had come to realize. We had that in common, because mornings were not for me, and I only got through them with the liquid currently making its way into my veins.

“Ladies,” Kade said as he entered the kitchen and made his way over to the coffeepot and poured his own mug full to the brim. Astrid smirked at me again before nodding to Kade and making her way out of the kitchen, leaving me alone with this enigma of a man.
