Chapter Twenty
Mariusâs nose was twitching like crazy thanks to all the wretched flowers around, but the foliage was useful in helping a tracking wolf stay hidden. There were no indications animals of any kind lived in the elven realm, making Marius wonder how the flowers managed to grow with no insects. His guess was that magic had a lot to do with it; something Marius could feel vibrations of under his paws and every time he brushed against a leaf or branch.
His wolf was in a surly mood. He hated Tansin from the moment he scented him. The man did everything he could to undermine his mating. Unfortunately, that dislike did nothing to excuse the annoying fact Tansin mentioned about his lack of mark. Cathair was supposed to mark me. He didnât. Cathair promised they were fully mated and Marius had been happy with that. But now, knowing he should be marked and wasnât â Marius pushed away his feelings of insecurity and focused on his anger at the attack on his pack. Cathair would explain himself laterâ¦much later.
The urge to leap on the guy as Tansin slapped the shoulders of the two men whoâd been to Cloverleah was understandably strong. It was clearly a secret meeting. They were behind what looked like barracks and there wasnât a lot of foliage around. Marius crept as close as he could, straining to hear what was said.
âWhat did the Elder want? Have those damn seers told him about our visit to earth?â The speakerâs face was marred by a fine scar that ran from the corner of his eye to the curve of his lip. His dark hair was braided, the ends touching his ass. In terms of height and build, he wasnât any bigger than Tansin and Marius was confident he could take him if he had to. But at this point, listening was more important. A man couldnât talk if he was dead.
âCathairâs back and heâs got that puppy with him,â Tansin spat on the ground. âBut the pupâs not marked so he can still be taken out although weâre going to have to hurry. I couldnât resist taunting the mutt about his lack of status and if he and Cathair talk about it, Iâm sure the damn man will be marked by nightfall. I wonât allow that to happen.â
âI donât know why the hell youâre so hell-fired and determined to get Cathair into your bed.â The other man was quiet spoken, but his battle pants indicated soldier status. The man had a flaming mass of red hair and Marius could make out every freckle on the manâs chest from where he was hiding. âIf we kill the wolf then your old man will be boss in a matter of months. Youâll have plenty of ass begging for your cock then.â
âIâve always wanted Cathair at my mercy, begging for my dick,â Tansin snarled. âFucking asshole threw me off always picking up tiny twinks, when what he clearly needed was someone to take him in hand.
