"Someone's up ahead," Dom kept his voice low and soft. "Stay close." He released his hold on my waist.

"Like a have a choice," I whispered, more to myself than to the treacherous ass standing next to me holding the gun. "You didn't have to come for me."

"Shh." He eased me next to the wall.

"I had it all under control."

His gaze flicked to me, and he raised a single brow as if to question my sanity.

"Well, I did."

"Only if you count being strapped onto a table and flayed like wild game controlling it."

Mouth open, I inhaled, ready to rebuff his comment, but how does one counter that kind of a statement?

"Shh." He pressed two fingers to my lips.

Sure, fine, he had a point, a valid one at that, but I wasn't about to let him know. Hell, that'd only make his ego and head swell even more than they already were. But then again, this little rescue mission of his had nothing to do with saving me as a person. No, someone else pulled his strings, the Russian mafia from what I could tell, and he was following their fucking orders.

"Fine," I said, then hissed, "you're such an ass."

Dominic glanced at me with a look that said, 'shut the hell up already.'

He shoved me inside a large crack in one of the walls, then squeezed his body inside the confined space with me. The coolness of the rocky structure did nothing to douse the pain burning through the taped wound on my back.

I bit back a cry, but a small groan escaped my lips. Each time I inhaled, it pressed the wound against the wall, causing an intense burning sensation. So, I tried to take shallow breaths, but that only made me feel air hungry.

A couple of men stepped out of a carved-out room and lingered in the corridor, talking close to where we now hid.

Instinct had me pushing against Dominic to put more space between my screaming flesh and the uneven, unyielding stone surface behind me. Tears made my eyes watery, and I groaned.

"Shh," he whispered softly in my ear.

I needed to inhale a more satisfying breath, but I couldn't without making a sound. Finally, needing to fill my screaming lungs, my body took an involuntary breath.

Pain shot through my shoulder. A moan of pain started in the back of my throat, and in a flash, Dominic's mouth covered mine, claiming my lips as if to muffle the sound.

His action took me by surprise, and I gasped.

His tongue plunged into my mouth, brushing against mine, and my mind literally went blank. The man's touch, feel, and smell surrounded me, invading my senses. His kiss demanded my full attention. My body responded to his, and the more our lips moved, and the kiss deepened, the greater the lustful hunger inside me rose.

My head spun, and confusion set in because I wanted to kiss him and kill him at the same time?

He broke the kiss and gazed at me with hooded eyes.

Well, now, it seems the lustful feelings run both ways.
