Groaning, I got up from the recliner, mindful of Tigger, who wasn’t about to move an inch. Annoyed with myself for allowing all these pounds to sneak up on me, and seemingly getting too old to spend the night on a recliner, I made my way awkwardly to the bathroom, but not before I made sure Gavin and Liam were out of eyesight. The last thing I needed was him laughing at me.

I checked on the kids on my way to my bathroom. Tiffany and Finn were still out, cuddled up on the floor. I lingered for a moment to take in the cute picture. It almost seemed as if Tiff was snuggling a stuffed animal to her. She and Bax used to sleep that way…

Quickly I moved into my bedroom before my overactive mind followed that train of thought. It didn’t make any sense. Unless they played puppies last night, I told myself.

A whiff of myself confirmed that I was in dire need of a shower and standing under the spray of water, I relived Gavin’s and my night out. It had been so much fun, more than I had had in a long time.

For most of the night and well into the early morning hours, we talked about this and that, never running out of topics, never having an awkward pause. We only stopped when we finally fell asleep, I didn’t even remember who was out first.

I picked a pair of white shorts and a yellow T-shirt to finish my ensemble, then I blow-dried my hair and checked on the kids again, who were still out.

Outside, I heard the motor of Gavin’s SUV and I hurried to hold the front door open for father and son.

My heart skipped a beat when I watched Gavin get out of the SUV. The man was breathtaking. His hair was still wet from a shower he must have taken too and shone blue in spots in the sunlight.

He looked up and when our eyes met it was like a jolt going straight through my chest. His smile exposed a set of dimples, causing my stomach to tumble and making it clear to me that I was falling hard for this man.

Liam got out on the other side and both picked up trays filled with aluminum-wrapped plates.

“You look like a ray of sunshine,” Gavin greeted me, giving me a kiss as he walked past. The simple gesture made my eyes well. I wanted this. I wanted this so badly, it hurt.

Not much later we all sat around the bay breakfast area in my kitchen, devouring Gavin’s French toast and sausages.

“This is so good,” Tiff praised.

“Thank you, it’s my secret recipe.” Gavin smiled at her, warming my heart even more. Could this man be any more perfect?

Be careful, my mind whispered, he still has to tell you something, something that he fears will change your opinion of him drastically.

Too late, my heart replied, too late to be careful.

“So, does anybody have any plans today? Or shall we do something together?” Gavin asked, rolling up his napkin.
