EPILOGUE

Logan helped her off his bike and smiled down at her as she removed the helmet. He looked past the house and asked, “Feel like a stroll before we head in?”

“Okay.” She smiled up at him and he felt like he wanted to take this stroll with her for the rest of his life. He reached for her hand, and they took a walk down the beach.

By the time they were back at her place, he was anxious to get her undressed, under him, over him, but also to get her next to him for another night of sleep with a warm, welcoming body next to his. He dropped his keys in the bowl by the door and she looked up at him. “Should I—”

“No. I…uh…I like your keys in my bowl.” She realized why he was snickering and said, “I wouldn’t call it a bowl though you do seem to unlock something.”

“I’m dying to unlock something tonight.” He stepped forward. “No games. No points. I just—”

She tiptoed up and cut him off with a kiss.

It was just a dinner at the E-club meant to sell beer and let Marines mingle. It turned into one night, that turned into one weekend, that turned into the rest of their lives. She had married her high school sweetheart and that guy had used and abused her. Logan understood clearly why Valentine’s Day was not her favorite holiday. The following February, he sent her a text and asked her to meet him at their favorite restaurant. It was their meet cute anniversary after all.

She walked in looking like every fantasy he had all rolled into one beautiful package. He stood up and greeted her with a kiss. “Hey.”

“Hi.” She was all smiles and blushing cheeks.

“Happy anniversary.” He indicated the table and the box there.

“Do I want to know?” she asked.

“Of course, you don’t.” He snickered. “But I felt like it was an appropriate gift.”

She slid into the booth, and he slid in next to her instead of across. She pulled the box toward her and then pulled at the satin ribbon as she said, “Did you wrap this yourself?”

“Yes.” He was as offended as it sounded.

“You did a good job.” She winked at him. He grunted. Waited. She undid the top of the box and slowly removed it. He could hardly stand the wait. “And tissue paper?”

“Anticipation.” He bit his lower lip.

“Oh my God.” She pulled the custom printed boxers with her face all over them out of the box. She started laughing and said, “Why? What?”

“That’s not all.” He pointed. There was a matching set for her with his face all over them.

“Why is your tongue—” She put them in the box and covered it as the waitress arrived. “Hi.”

“Look at you two. I remember the first time you came in here. I thought, now they are a—is that your face on his britches?”

Didn’t quite get them all the way in the box. She laughed and they laughed, and it was all worth it when she said, “This…is the best Valentine’s ever.
