Chapter Twenty
When we pull into the hotelâs parking lot, the moment they step off their bikes, all of their wings disappear. I ask Uri about it.
He shrugs as if it is no big deal, I guess it isnât for them. âWe need to hide our wings from humans.â
I snort at that. âIf you want to hide from the humans, maybe you guys shouldnât ride on motorcycles with your wings out for everyone to see.â
He laughs as if I told the funniest joke. âAva, they donât see us.â
I glare at him. âWhat do you mean they donât see us? We were on loud ass motorcycles with all of your wings out on display. We were basically begging for people to stare at us.â
Uri bops my nose and I swipe his hand away just a second too late. Annoying ass angel. Sexy angel, but annoying. âYou know that old saying, angels are always with you. You just canât see them?â I nod, still not believing him. âWell, we arenât always with you, but when we are around, you canât see us unless we want you to. Same goes with demons. We are hidden unless we donât want to be.â
âI must have missed that class in the convent, where I learned to shield myself from humans. So I am sure there are a bunch of humans freaked out seeing only Johnny and I on the road.â I giggle, thinking about how Johnny was waving his hands up in the air while riding in front of Marbas. Poor guy just dealt with Johnnyâs antics the entire ride.
Uri pulls me into him and forces me to look up into his eyes. âBaby doll, we hid you both as well.â
I raise an eyebrow, not believing him, but let it go.
I see Abe stare daggers at Uri, Uri just smiles in response, while Lucifer checks us into a hotel. I stand off in the corner of the dingy lobby, giving myself a wide birth from all things winged. The walls are a faded terracotta color, while the couches have green stripes on them. It has a weird, musty smell. It is barely a step above a pay by the hour hotel. This isnât the kind of hotel I pictured the King of Hell staying in. The demons around me scream luxury, not crack hotel vibes. I guess appearances can be deceiving.
Lucifer finishes speaking to the hotel clerk, giving her a Devilish smile, making her swoon. At least Iâm not the only one drooling over these dudes.
Lucifer hands everyone but me a room key. He turns to look at me, âYou will stay with me, darling. I am sorry these arenât the accommodations you are used to, but we are on limited time and this town does not have many options.â
Lilith pushes against the barrier in my mind, causing me to trip backwards. Abeâs hand is at my back, catching me before I fall on my ass. Lucifer smiles as he advances on me, trying to take my hand to pull me towards him.
