Alaskan Adventure
Finn sighed heavily as he shrugged out of his snowsuit. The icy blast that was following him in from the open door made him shiver, and he reached out his leg to slam it closed. The trip into Anchorage for Christmas gifts had done little to improve his foul temper. In two daysâ time, he would be leaving the Chugach Research Centre, which had been his base in the state park for the last nine months, and returning home to Ireland to spend Christmas with his family.
The thought should have filled Finn with pleasure, as he had certainly missed the whole crazy lot of them, yet the closer the day came, the more his mood worsened.
The cause of his bad-tempered demeanour, Finn knew, was sitting in the common room next door â all five foot six of her, with fiery red hair and beautiful green eyes, and a mouth that was made for kissing.
Shannon. He had fallen for her on the plane over here and fallen hard. She was the only other scientist from Ireland, but that wasnât the reason for his longing. No, the cause was partly his huge physical attraction to her (which, try as he might, Finn could not switch off), and also her quick, sassy attitude and no-nonsense approach. Finn could have gone with them, of course, but he had hung around, making excuses such as needing to check his student groupings for the teams arriving in February, and working on the journal paper he was writing on wilderness survival skills.
Looking up from her laptop as Finn entered the room, Shannon sighed inwardly. She wasnât sure she could keep up this disinterested attitude much longer. He was gorgeous â cute, funny, intelligent, saw her as an equal, and had a fantastic six-pack to boot â but she had promised herself not to have another relationship with a colleague, and she was determined to stick to that plan. As much as her body hated her for it.
She could see the way he looked at her, when he thought she was engrossed in a task. That piercing gaze, as if he could see straight into her heart, always gave her a pleasant shiver of awareness. But no, back home in Ireland, Stu had put her off workplace dating for life â once bitten twice shy, and all that.
It had gotten to the point, though, that she had to leave a room whenever Finn entered it, so little could she trust her own responses. Her heightened
