Chapter Five

THE DESSERT SHOWS UP, looking like a masterpiece straight out of a fancy cooking show. And just when I thought this night couldn't get any more surreal, Linus keeps topping up my wine glass like he's on a mission to make me forget I'm about to marry my boss.

He's sharing these wild travel stories that sound like they're from a movie script. I'm half expecting him to say he wrestled a shark or found Atlantis. I'm so engrossed in his tales, I almost don't notice the room starting to spin – thanks to the wine, no doubt.

As we step outside, the chilly air slaps me back to reality. I wobble a bit on my heels, and Linus, being the gentleman, offers his arm.

Oh boy, looks like the wine's been doing the talking. I am, buzzed and blabbering, calling Linus Kline a gentleman. Yep, the same guy who pretty much cornered me into this whole marriage deal. If that's not a top-tier, wine-induced irony, I don't know what is!

I grab it like it's a life raft. Honestly, if he weren't here, I'd probably be making friends with the pavement right about now.

In the car, I can't stop sneaking peeks at him. There's something about Linus Kline driving a car that's ridiculously hot.

Don't ask me why – it's just one of those weird truths of the universe.

Back at the apartment, I kick off my heels the moment we're inside. Linus asks if I'm okay, and all I can think is, ‘Oh, I'm more than okay, Mr. CEO.’ Next thing I know, I'm on my tiptoes, planting a kiss on him. It's bold, maybe the boldest thing I've ever done, but hey, blame it on the wine.

He breaks the kiss, all noble and stuff, “You had too much to drink. I won’t take advantage of you like this, Eve.”

But I'm like, “Linus, honey, I'm not some damsel in distress. I know exactly what I'm doing.”

So, we go in for another kiss, and this time, he's not holding back.

He lifts me up, and I wrap my legs around him like I'm some heroine in a romance novel. We're kissing like the world's about to end, and all I have in my mind right now is, ‘This man has some serious skills.’

We make it to the bedroom, and things start heating up real quick.

Linus is all gentlemanly, “Are you sure you want to do this, Eve?”

“Linus, if I were any surer, I'd be a walking, talking certainty.”

So, Linus and me, in the throes of... let's call it an extremely enthusiastic anatomy lesson. He's exploring new territories, and I'm pretty much a living, breathing roadmap of 'oh, right there!' His movements are all about precision – like he's got a GPS dialed in to my pleasure points. My body's responding like it's on autopilot, every touch sending me into orbit.

It's crazy, it's wild, and it's totally not something I'd ever imagined doing. But hey, life is short, and Linus Kline is... well, he's Linus Kline. What's a girl to do?

Then he moves up for a kiss, and whoa, talk about a flavor twist.
