Seasoned Meat

Taco Bell® does wonders with a few basic ingredients. This meat is one of their critical ingredients to make other dishes and will have you making tacos, burritos, and nachos in no time. You may not be familiar with the masa harina, but you’ll find this corn flour in the baking section near the flour in your grocery store. Wonder what to do with the rest of the masa? Try making the Chili’s® Chicken Enchilada Soup (page 77).

1 1/2 tablespoons masa harina

4 1/2 teaspoons chili powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon cumin

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1/4 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon dried minced onion

1 1/3 pounds ground beef chuck

3/4 to 1 cup water

In a small bowl, mix together all of the ingredients except the meat and water. Stir the spice mixture well, making sure that all the spices have been blended. Crumble the ground beef into a frying pan and brown the meat, stirring well. Remove the beef from the heat, place the meat into a sieve and rinse it with hot water, then drain the water and grease from the beef. Return the beef to the pan and add the spice mix. Add the water to the ground beef and seasoning and simmer on medium-low heat for 20 minutes, until most of the moisture has cooked away. Remove from the heat when the moisture in the meat has dissipated but the meat is not dry.
