CHAPTER 16
Smith
Isla wasnât in the room when I woke up. She had been asleep on the couch when Iâd got back from the tournament the night before so I knew she hadnât been out all night with that Keith dickhead. My back ached from sleeping on the floor. I told her I would sleep on the couch but she took it anyway. I wasnât about to sleep in the big comfortable king-size bed while she slept on the couch. She was the most stubborn woman Iâd ever met. I decided to go to the gym for a quick workout. We had a scheduled tour of the cellars with a wine tasting, and then we would be meeting with the Millers in the evening to give our presentation.
When I got to the gym Isla was already there, working out. She looked beautiful. She was wearing a black and olive green sports bra, black biker shorts, and her hair was tied back in a ponytail. She had long, soft, wavy brown hair and it was gorgeous. I always liked looking at her when her hair was pulled back. I could better see her neck, the angles of her heart-shaped face, the dimple in her chin, and it accentuated the fierceness of her almond-shaped, hazel eyes. She looked fresh as a daisy. Even though she was sweating she still smelled delicious. She was squatting some free-weights when I walked in and it made me stop in my tracks. Watching her ass as she bent down was heaven and torture at the same time. As soon as she saw me in the reflection in the mirror she rolled her eyes in frustration and threw the weights down with a loud thud.
âGeez, is there nowhere on this property where a girl can get a little time to herself?â
âSorry Illinois, I didnât realize I had to consult with your schedule to get a workout in. Shall I wait in the hall?â
She ignored what Iâd said. âYou didnât have to sleep on the floor last night.â She shook her legs out with her hands on her hips.
âWell, I wasnât about to sleep on the big comfortable bed while you slept on the couch was I? If you werenât so stubborn that bed wouldnât have gone to waste.â
âWell then donât waste it and just sleep in it.â
âItâs not happening. Either youâre taking it tonight, or it goes to waste again.â
âNow whoâs being stubborn?â
âUmm, still you.â
She rolled her eyes and picked up the weights to do another set.
âSo how was the golf tournament?â
âPretty pathetic. We came in dead last. Ted has the most hilarious golf swing Iâve ever seen in my life. Itâs worse than Charles Barkleyâs and thatâs really saying something.â
âCharles Barkley?â
âGo to YouTube and search âCharles Barkley Golf Swingâ and youâll know what Iâm talking about.â I said, hopping on the treadmill to get warmed up.
âSo how was your date?â I had to ask.
âFine.â
âJust fine?â
âYeah. It was fine. Iâm going to head back and get showered.â She
