Chapter 17

Wyatt

Nina looked at me with her eyes glazing over, and I wasn’t sure what was coming.

“Wow. I think I just had a breakthrough. A lightbulb, eureka moment.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I like that you don’t ask me to do things without a fair trade or give me so much more than I expect in return. My mom has a way of undermining my career, so I never get what I’m worth with her.”

“Yeah, I still don’t know how she thought it was an even trade for you to restore those paintings for a ticket to a charity event. I’m glad you stuck up for yourself.”

“Me, too.” She smiled.

We settled in for the night, falling asleep in each other’s arms. When the alarm on my phone sounded the next morning, Nina was already up and in the shower. It was like she didn’t sleep.

I poked my head into the bathroom just as she was stepping out and wrapping a towel around herself.

“Oh no, you don’t.” She laughed, pulling the towel tighter. “I see you and that.”

“This happens every morning,” I said with a grin. My cock had a wicked mind of its own and wanted her.

“Wyatt, it’s Monday morning. Time to get up and get it done. You put that thing away. I think we both have a full day ahead. I’m going to desperately try avoiding my mother while getting those paintings moved, which means I need to get to Trent before he starts his day.”

Cock immediately became flaccid at the sound of my father’s name.

“Enough said. You’re right. I refused to look at any emails from Charlotte this weekend, so I’m sure she’s going to be yelling at me as soon as I look at my notifications. Are you going to wait for me and catch a ride?”

“No.” She shook her head, picking up her phone off the vanity. “I need to get back to my mother’s, change, get a hold of your dad, swing by your family place, and then check supplies …”

Her voice drifted off as she spoke more to herself than to me, walking toward me to leave the bathroom. I stopped her with a quick kiss on the forehead before hopping in the shower behind her.

By the time I got out, she was already dressed and on the phone in the kitchen. Dark oak cabinets with white marble countertops lined the wall opposite the windows with the view she loved so much.

Nina moved through the kitchen effortlessly. There was coffee brewing and a slice of leftover pizza in her hand.

“Breakfast of champions?” I asked, moving behind her to make myself some coffee.

“I couldn’t find the sugar, and there isn’t anything in the fridge except that extra pie we ordered and beer.”

I laughed. “Lies. There’s mustard, too.”

She giggled and took a bite. “I gotta go. I have an Uber on the way. Text me.”

“All day,” I promised as we shared a quick kiss that felt too quick for me.

She was about to step out the front door when I hurried over to her, stopping her by pressing her body against the wall.
