The limo parked before Ivy’s building. She’d had a night! It was sad that it had come to an end, but she was thoroughly exhausted and almost glad for the finale. Almost. Leaving Wolf’s embrace felt unimaginable. Yet, the stumble through a barrage of paparazzi to the limo had further cemented her determination to make this a one-night experience.

“Thank you,” he said, clasping her hand.

“Anything to help you out with your challenges,” she offered, trying to make light of something she’d fallen deep into and wasn’t sure how to climb out of.

“Ivy, don’t do that. Do you think tonight was just for the calendar? It wasn’t. Please tell me you know that.”

The desperation in his tone chided her. Why did she have to insist on keeping them at a distance even after that kiss? Oh, that kiss!

“Of course, I know it was a real date. I was just teasing.” But if she was truthful with herself, it had been a form of protection against her already challenged emotional reserves. Amazing kiss or not, she had to draw a line. “Don’t even tell me if my face shows up on the socials tomorrow, okay?”

“I won’t. Promise.” He kissed her hand. “Did you have a good time?”

“I did. It was like a fairy tale.” A once-in-a-lifetime adventure. “And speaking of tales of wonder, I have to get this dress back to my friend tomorrow or else she’ll send the cavalry after me.”

Wolf laughed. Then he stroked her hair. “I like your hair down. It’s so soft.”

“Being a barista is not glamorous. If I don’t tie my hair back, it’ll end up in someone’s coffee. But it was fun to go glamorous tonight. Now, as soon as I leave this coach, it will turn into a pumpkin.” She opened the back door, pushed to get out, and then turned to smile at him.

The kiss was unavoidable. Her field note journal abandoned for real experience. Had she thought to capture this man in her net? Because really, there were thousands of butterflies fluttering throughout her system with his kiss. And they were captured within, free to react to Wolf’s every sensual touch. She had to escape his net before it was too late.

He bowed his forehead to hers. “I’d ask to come inside, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if your brother was waiting by the door. Do you have a curfew?”

“Nope. But I won’t invite you in. The place is very open. There’s not a lot of privacy.”

“I get it. We could have gone to my place...”

Was he intimating they might have ended the night in bed? Ivy could certainly get behind that. Or rather, in between those sheets.

And yet, with her official dating badge so shiny and new, she was reluctant to crawl into bed with Wolf. Sex meant something to her. She didn’t have flings or share her body with just anyone. Emotions were involved and she required, at the very least, the suggestion of a commitment before she got naked with a man.
