"I think we're making some headway," he told them.

"You have shared these names with Yichang Enlai already?" Gerhard Ebbing asked.

"I have. He had a couple of them on one or the other of his lists, and he's got them all on his short list, now."

"And where are we philosophically?" Ebbing asked.

Kerry grinned. "Well, Yichang still believes that the airport is the target of some group--perhaps the People's People--which opposes the capitalistic development of China. And perhaps he's right. In any event, that has to be his concern.

"He's being tolerant of our hypothesis that the SSTs will be the true objective of this group of misfits. The end result is about the same; China Dome is relying on supersonic travel as its keynote. It wouldn't be the same, and might not survive, with conventional air transport."

"Are we belittling the airport by calling it China Dome?" Broussard asked.

"I sent Sun Chen some information about nicknames and advertising. The last time I talked to him, he called it China Dome. And then told me his reference wasn't official, of course."

There was another possible scenario, and while Kerry was sure everyone had considered it, no one here was going to bring it up. Ebbing, Zemenek, Broussard, and least of all, Kerry, wanted to mention that one of their companies could be seeking a simplistic method for outperforming their competition.

He closed the meeting on that happy note of distrust.
