John beat out more than 130 other contestants to win the $25,000 grand prize at the International Chili Society World’s Championship Chili Cook-off in New Hampshire. The veteran chili champ began entering cook-offs in the early 1980s with his brother Darrell’s team and since then, has attended ten or more cook-offs per year. For the first couple of decades, he says he didn’t win many cook-offs, but he got to know a lot of wonderful people who became his chili family. In 1994, he married the light of his life, Dora, in Lake Tahoe right after competing in the High Sierra Regional Chili Cook-off.
