The First Time
They gazed at each other for a moment and then Magnus smiled in disbelief. âI never thought this would happen,â he murmured, âthat I would be here with you. I have wanted... You have no idea how much I wanted this to happen, Isla.â
She reached out and put her hands on his shoulders. âI think I do. I have dreamed about it. I have longed for it, Magnus.â
âEven after everything I did?â He was astonished.
âYou had been hurt, had you not?â she asked, her voice was a murmur. He sat for a moment, mesmerized by her dark blue eyes. âSomething hurt you very badly and you could not trust anymore. I sensed it a long while ago.â
Magnus reached out and caressed her cheek with his right hand, running his thumb over her parted lips. âYou are right,â he said, his voice soft and husky. âAnd somewhere inside, I knew you were not deceiving me. I wondered often if I was trying to keep you here on purpose. Isla, I did not want you to leave me.â
For one more moment, they looked at each other and then Magnus did what they had both wanted since the first time they had met, all those months ago. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her with a ragged sigh of relief and a moan of passion.
Isla had kissed before by someone other than Magnus, but they had been fumbling attempts when she had been too young to realize the difference between a youth and a man. She had been cuddled by boys. Now, she was being masterfully held by an expert whose arms were strong and supportive. Moreover, the lips caressing hers and the tongue that was gently probing her mouth did not belong to a youth. These were the soft but firm lips of a real man, one who had driven women mad with pleasure before and was doing the same to her now.
When he let her go, Isla wanted to grab him and pull him back again. Her lips suddenly felt cold and her body ached for his.
âThank God,â he whispered as he laid her down on the silk coverlet. âThank God, you feel the same, Isla.â He ran his hand slowly down her arm from her shoulder to her waist. It was not an intimate touch, but it made her shiver with delight.
âI have thought about you, every moment,â she confessed. âHad I stayed somewhere else, I know that any young Laird would have helped me, but I doubt if I could have found any to satisfy my needs like I know you can. And it was most unlikely that any would show much affection for Andrew. That is my sticking point. I would not have anyone who would not at least be kind to my baby brother.â
âI would be kind,â he whispered, his green eyes gazing into hers so that she could not look away. âI would be loving. You are such a wonderful woman, Isla.â
âI know you would.
