Chapter

Fifteen

Ashlyn sat in a chair made of woven flowers and watched Blossom as she flipped through a book.

“I swear it was in here,” she said for the tenth time in as many minutes.

“What are you looking for?” Ashlyn asked.

“It’s a spell for an oblivious charm. Nix and Carter can wear them while they are in the castle.”

“What will the charm do?”

“To the wearer, it does nothing. But to the surrounding people, Carter and Nix could be naked and no one would pay them any attention.”

“What about us? Would we be oblivious to them?”

“Whoever makes the charm is impervious to it. So, I’ll make one for Nix, and you can make one for Carter.”

“One problem. I’ve never made a charm.”

“Not a problem at all. It’s rather simple to make. I just have to find the spell in here.”

As Blossom continued to flip through pages, Ashlyn wondered if an oblivious charm would work for her as well. Not so much in the castle, but for school. Then, not only could she stay hidden from the mob on her way to and from school, but from Marissa as well.

“If you find the spell, can we make a charm for me as well?” Ashlyn asked.

“Yes. But why would you want one?”

“There are some people I’d like to avoid.”

“Like who?”

“My dad’s clients are looking for him and think I know where he is. So, I’d rather avoid them. And there is a girl at school who makes everyone’s life hell.”

“Then we’ll definitely make one for you. I just have to find the right page.” She sighed and flipped through a few more pages before she paused. “Oh, why didn’t I think of it before? I bet the page became oblivious.”

“Can it do that?”

“Spells and charms have a way of doing things on their own. It’s one reason the old spell room is sealed.”

“The upper east door?”

She nodded. “I didn’t want to say anything while Crux was around since he’s an outsider, but that room holds many old books that have started using magic on their own. I might have to put this book in there as well. Unless it behaves and shows me the oblivious page.”

The pages flipped on their own and Blossom smiled. “I knew you could be reasoned with.”

She then opened a small box and pulled out three silver charms. Each one was of a flower and hung from a silver chain. Not exactly what Carter would want to wear, but no one would see it.

Blossom placed the first charm on the opened book, and then with a wave of her hand, she lit the candle placed next to it. She plucked a clear vial from her shelf and sprinkled white crystals onto the silver. “With your light and salt of the earth, I make this oblivious charm.” She placed her hands on the silver and said the incantation again. She repeated it until a glow spread from beneath her hands.

She then let her hands open, and the silver charm glowed for a moment before it returned to regular silver.
