If you love yourself, you love everybody else as you do yourself. As long as you love another person less tha n you love yourself, you do not love yourself rightly-if you do not love a l l people as you love yourself. You will love a l l people in one person: and that person is God a nd human. Thus all is right for such a person, who loves himself or herself and all others as himself or herself. And this is as it should be.17

We o re expected to love ourselves and a l parts of ourselves, body included.

Everyone loves himself to some degree. Those who imagine that they do not love their bodies, fool themselves. For if they hated themselves, they would cease to exist. We must love all things that lead us to God. That alone is love.18

Eckha rt asks, “If you do not know how to love yourself, how is it possible that you will love God?“19 There can be no l ove of neighbor without love of self.

One should try to find out, therefore, if the person who is to be entrusted with the care of his neighbors loves himself, so that he may be in a position to love them as he does himself

. . . Love your neighbor as you love yourself-not as you hate yourself.20

All creatures ore to love themselves, for their existence is a blessing worthy of being loved.

So dearly does a creature love its own being, which it has received from God. If someone were to pour forth on a soul all the tortures of hell, it would stil l not wish not to be, so dearly does a creature love its own being, which it has received directly from God.21
