Chapter Seven

Daxton stayed up with me for most of the night. Making me drink fluids, calming me down, and all around being kinder and more patient with me than anyone ever had. In the end, I felt much better after getting sick, and recovered from whatever I took around three that morning.

Daxton let me go home. Or more like, he couldn’t stop me as I ran out the door and escaped to my place.

Hours later, I was a groaning heap on the couch, pouring the whole sorry story out to Maribel.

“It was humiliating,” I cried. “I threw myself at him. I’m talking jumped off the Empire State Building and tried to land in his pants—threw myself at him. How am I ever going to look him in the face again?”

She meowed, nuzzling my face.

“I know, I know. I have to apologize to him. Tell him nothing like that will happen again—including sharing drugs with gangbangers, and that we’ll keep it strictly professional from here on.

“Oooh. Didn’t I mention? I used to be a gymnast.

“Ahh!” I shrieked, smashing the pillow over my face.
