Marnie

Damien.

Cox.

Is.

Kissing.

Me.

I’m so shocked when his lips touch mine that I don’t know what to do. I’ve literally had fantasies about this moment—maybe not in a creepy old haunted house, but definitely this kiss—but now that it’s actually happening I feel like I might pass out.

After kissing me, Damien sits back and gives me a questioning look. I’m suddenly very aware of how attractive he is all over again. He’s so hot, so muscular…and so out of my league.

“You okay?” he asks.

“No,” I say, shaking my head. “I mean yes…I mean…” Oh, God. I’m a blubbering idiot. My cheeks flush with heat—from embarrassment about my stuttering, but also from what a single kiss from Damien has done to my body. My skin is tingling all over and there’s a damp heat between my thighs.

“Do you believe me now?” he says. “I really do like you, Marnie.”

“Ah,” I squeak out. “Okay.”

“I’m sorry it took me this long to tell you.”

All I can do is nod.

He settles back on the bed and glances around. “You know, this is actually a pretty cool room.”

“Yeah. I’d like it a whole lot more if we weren’t locked inside it, though.”

He laughs. “Agreed.”

I fiddle with the too-short hem of my dress. I guess if we’re going to be stuck in here for a while, I may as well try to make conversation. “So what are you majoring in?”

“Computer science.”

I laugh. “And what are you really majoring in?”

“That really is my major.”

“Oh.” A fresh wave of embarrassment washes over me. “Sorry. I thought you were joking.”

“Don’t worry about it. I get that reaction all the time.” He grins. “Truth is, I really am a nerd.”

Huh. Okay. Knowing that he’s not just into football and partying makes him all the more hot.

“What do you want to do after graduation?” I ask.

“There are a few different paths I’m considering. I’d love to develop software or apps. What about you? You’re an art major, right?”

I’m surprised—and impressed—that he knows.

“Yep,” I say. “Probably not the smartest decision I’ve ever made in terms of my bank account, but I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

“Hey, you gotta follow your heart, right?”

“Yeah.” I smile. “Exactly.”

“Is your family supportive of your decision?”

I nod. “They are, thankfully. Actually, it’s really sweet. My mom is convinced I’m going to be this famous artist one day. I keep telling her that it’s much more likely I’ll end up being an art teacher or something.”

“Well, whatever you end up doing, I’ve got a feeling you’re going to be amazing at it.”

I’m touched by his words, but I also can’t help but shake my head. “You barely know me, Damien.”

“That’s true.” He leans in a little toward me. “But I want to change that. I want to get to know you. In every way possible.”

I’m more prepared this time when he kisses me. I can feel myself start to melt against him as he puts his arm around me to pull me closer. The contrast between his surprisingly soft lips and his rough stubble brushing against my cheek sends an electric jolt straight through my body.
