“And we’re sure this is the place?” I ask as I lean forward to look through the windshield. “I’ll be honest, I was so annoyed with her when we dropped her off here last time, that I didn’t pay much attention to the address.”

“This is the place alright,” Sean replies as he shuts off the vehicle. “Guess she wasn’t kidding about there being another party.”

“A two-day affair, as she put it,” I roll my eyes. “Do you think they’re going to let us in?”

“I don’t know,” Sean says as he opens the door to the car. “But there’s only one way to find out.”

He steps outside, and with a knot in the pit of my stomach, I do the same. I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m on high alert. I know the kind of people we’re dealing with, and even all the trust I have in Sean’s leading doesn’t alleviate the fear I have that something will go wrong.

I fall into step alongside him as he walks up the stone path to the stone staircase leading to the door. Besides the cars parked outside, the place looks deserted, and I’m not sure we’re in the right location to find Sofia. But the sign someone taped to the front door tells us we’re in the right place. “Party in the back,” it says, so off we go.

As soon as we round the corner leading to the back of the house, we’re hit with a wall of sound.

I’m not sure how it was so quiet up front when it’s so loud around the back of the house, but there’s no denying a party is taking place. I stick close to Sean, hoping he’s managing to keep his head clear as we wade into the crowd that’s filled the backyard.

“At least we don’t have to knock on the front door,” I comment. “Makes me feel like less of an intruder.”

“I still want to find her and get the hell out of here as quickly as we can,” Sean tells me in a low voice. I nod, and together, we scan face after face. It doesn’t help that there are a lot of scantily clad young women present. Sofia is bound to blend right in.

“Part of me wants to start shouting her name,” I tell Sean, and he shakes his head.

“I considered it myself, but I think we’re better off keeping it quiet.”

I nod, and we make our way down to the pool area.

“Weird that they have the large pool here, but there’s a hot tub up there,” I tell him, pointing up to the hot tub on the second-story deck.

“I’m guessing it’s for ease of access,” Sean says.

“I don’t see her, and I’m pretty sure the people in there are naked,” I reply, scanning the pool that’s a short distance from us.

“I definitely don’t want to see her naked. That’s something we can’t un-see,” Sean says with an exaggerated shake of his head and shiver, and I have to agree. “She’s not here,” I say, forcing myself to focus on the task at hand.
