Geese stand atop the dam above Lake Lynn.

The second half of the hike turns back north, tracing the west shore of Lake Lynn.

Aquatic panoramas continue as you wind along the main shore and around other small coves. The last part of the trek utilizes another long boardwalk that puts an exclamation mark on the loop. Enjoy the wetland a second time before returning to the park community center.

Miles and Directions

0.0 From the southwest end of the community center parking area, pick up the asphalt Lake Lynn Greenway. Descend into woods and quickly reach Hare Snipe Creek. It is but a small stream, and during normal flows you will be able to walk over it dry footed. Just beyond the stream an unnamed natural surface trail leaves left to Ray Road, up Hare Snipe Creek. Continue in seasonally inundated wetland. Loblolly pines and tulip trees border the path.

0.2 Come to the first boardwalk of the loop. It stretches over a wetland then opens onto Lake Lynn. Ahead, the long and impressive boardwalk splits. You have reached the loop portion of the hike. Keep straight here, soaking in excellent down lake views. Return to land. Walk in woodland with Lake Lynn to your right. Pass spur trails to apartment complexes.

0.5 Cross a short boardwalk and quickly rejoin dry land, still heading south.

0.7 The Lake Lynn Greenway again morphs to boardwalk and crosses a small cove of the lake then returns to terra firma.

1.2 Circle around a small cove before rising to meet the Lake Lynn Dam. Turn right here and walk westerly. Peer out on good lake views. The Lynn Road alternate trail access is visible downstream of the dam. Here the Hare Snipe Creek Trail heads across Lynn Road 2 miles to Wooten Meadow Park. Our hike turns right and heads north up the west side of Lake Lynn. Walk a wooded asphalt path with apartment complexes bordering the trail.

1.7 Cross another boardwalk. Walk under a power line.

1.8 Bisect another small cove of Lake Lynn.

2.1 Join one of the longest boardwalks of the entire greenway. Pass a short spur left on dry land then quickly link to another boardwalk.

2.3 The boardwalk curves right, easterly, then works through willow thickets. Note the planted cypress trees in the wetland.

2.4 Complete the loop portion of the hike. Turn left, backtracking toward the Lake Lynn Community Center.

2.6 Reach the Lake Lynn Community Center trailhead, finishing the hike.
