Once you park the car, it’s just a matter of walking between the two boulders and following the trail for 2.8 miles to the shores of Stampede Reservoir. The shoreline can vary from 2.0 to 3.0 miles down the trail depending on water levels from dry or wet winters.

The trail is narrow and traces the creek for the first mile. Road noise is soon replaced by the gurgle of the creek as it meanders toward the reservoir, flooding a willow meadow along the way before morphing into a snaking ribbon across the vast meadow partly swallowed by the reservoir. The backdrop of undulating green-forested mountains in the distance helps create a peaceful relaxing cadre for you and your dog to enjoy fresh air, open space, and quality time at a leisurely pace.
