Red

My hands tightened into fists and I stared at the ground in front of me. Aaron tried talking again, but I closed my eyes as the elevator rose. My jaw stiffened. I was too pissed off to talk to him. If I did I might say something horrible.

Aaron's phone rang and he answered it quietly. "Yeah? No, I'm going back up to my room. I know he's not my dad, but that's not the point." Aaron sighed. "I'm sorry, Cal. I didn't mean to fuck something up for you but-"

I took the phone out of his hand and pressed it against my ear. "I know your type, Cal. You like to push people to do stupid shit and then you disappear when they're really in trouble. That's what you remind me of. I need you to do me a favor and fuck off."

Before he could give me more of his bullshit I ended the call. Screw Cal. He was a pain in the ass and like I said, I knew his type. He was getting Aaron involved in shit he didn't need to be involved in.

Aaron. The elevator doors slid open, but I was still seeing him practically in some guys lap. He'd looked really comfortable with the man, smiling and letting the old bastard touch him. It took me three times jamming the keycard in, pulling it out, and then slamming it inside again before the door finally opened and I was let inside of Aaron's room.

"Red..."

"Save it." I snapped. "You went out of your way to screw me tonight. Why didn't you wake me up?"

"You looked peaceful and you were tired." Aaron shuffled in after me and I heard the door close. "I know I should have said something, but the thought of waking you up when you were exhausted felt wrong. I was just going down to the meet and greets."

"But you stayed for more than that."

"Yes." Aaron whispered. His hand laid on my back and I shrugged it off. "Red, please. It wasn't what it looked like. Cal wanted me to meet some guys he knew and I was only having a drink. I was going to leave right after that."

I turned on my heels. "You expect me to believe that?"

"It's the truth." He wrung his hands as he looked up at me. "I didn't even want to sit with them, but Cal made me feel guilty. I owe him for his help. He's done a lot for me without ever asking for anything in return."

Scoffing, I shook my head. "Yeah, I'm sure that's what he tells you." I looked Aaron up and down. "Did you do any drugs?"

"None," he said quickly.

I narrowed my eyes. Before I'd gone to sleep I might have said Aaron wouldn't do that. He'd grown a bit and he knew that shit wasn't any good for him. But that was before I woke up to an empty bed.

"Did you?"

"No, Red." He shook his head and looked at the floor. "Can you please believe me? I swear I didn't do anything stupid.
