The taxi pulled over in the trailer park neighborhood street. It stopped a few meters before Mandy’s trailer home, parallel to Stara’s Dodge Neon. Inside the taxi, Stara’s gaze froze at Mandy’s trailer house. The events of the fateful night a few days earlier swept her mind.

“Hey Miss” said the old taxi driver of Iranian descent, “My meter’s still running.”

Stara paid him and stepped out. She strolled to her Dodge Neon which she left earlier. The car had gathered dust. Its body paint had been decorated by pieces of excrement released by the birds. She pulled out a set of master keys from inside her brown leather jacket and gained access inside. The unbearable midday heat that had accumulated inside the car prompted her to turn on the Air condition. The phone was exactly where she left it but without charge in its battery. As Stara searched around inside the glove compartment for her shades, she didn’t notice the little boy standing outside her window. It was the same kid that had extorted fifty bucks from her in exchange for information. He knocked on her tinted window of the driver’s door.

“Don’t you have friends to play with?”

“Hey lady, are you stealing this car? I’m going to scream you’re a thief.” said the boy.

“Do I look like a thief to you, little man?”

“Gimme hundred bucks or I’m calling the cops”

“I’m in no mood for your silly games little hustler, so go hang out with you age mates.”

“You’re lucky you’re pretty, I’m letting you go” before he ran away.

“No shit. Brat.” Before cranking up the engine and rolling out.
