Chapter Five

SHARING YESHUA WITH JEWISH PEOPLE

GOD’S CALL ON YOUR LIFE

In this chapter, I lay a scriptural foundation to help you understand that God has a specific call on your life, as a believer, to reach the Jewish people with the Good News of Yeshua. In so doing, I hope to help you better understand God’s heart for the Jewish community and His plan to use you to reach them. I will share with you some aspects of Jewish culture to help you identify with them, as well as suggest some specific strategies that will help you in witnessing. I will also share several theological objections Jewish people have concerning Yeshua and will respond to these objections, equipping you to help them see the truth of the scriptures.

I think that God has placed a call on every believer to share the message of Yeshua HaMashiach with people from every tribe, tongue, and nation.

…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

The Bible divides humanity into two classes of people: the Jews and the Gentiles. The term “Gentiles” is most often used to designate all people who are not Jewish (or of the twelve tribes of Israel). Scripturally, we are commanded to preach the gospel to all people groups of the world, but God specifically instructs us to reach out to the Jews first.

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile (Romans 1:16).

When I’m ministering to various congregations, I’ve noticed they sometimes have a special wall dedicated to the missionaries they support. Praise God, these missionaries are sharing the gospel with many nations around the world. It shocks me, however, that they are sometimes supporting thirty different missionaries, yet not one of them is to the nation of Israel. Even though Yeshua came for all people, He spoke specifically of His coming for the nation of Israel.

He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel” (Matthew 15:24).

When the apostle Paul (Shaul) went on his missionary journeys, he always went to the synagogue first to share the Good News of the Kingdom with the Jews before going to the Gentiles. It was the Jews who first brought the gospel message to the Gentiles, and now God desires to use the Gentiles to bring the message of Yeshua back to the Jews.

THE ROMANS ROAD

You may have heard the term the Romans Road. It is an evangelistic term describing how the book of Romans can be used to lead a person into a relationship with God. The Romans Road shows that we are all sinners and that the penalty for sin is death; but God in His mercy, sent His Son, Yeshua, to pay our penalty for sin and save us. This is all very true, of course, but to more fully understand the book of Romans, we need to know what was in the heart of Paul (Shaul), its author, when he wrote it.
