“I don’t need any help!” Oleander worked to keep her tone from revealing the panic arising inside and clutched her phone tighter. “My plan is in motion. Britt Wolfe won’t be a problem for much longer.”

Niles grunted. “It’s too late. He’s already en route.”

“Who did you send?” She forced the anger to the surface. It was better than the fear bubbling inside. She knew only too well what Niles’s guys could do and didn’t want to be on the receiving end of that.

“One of our enforcers. He’ll meet you in Richmond. Give him a job on the crew and he’ll find a way to silence Wolfe.”

“I can’t put him on the crew! We’re in the middle of a tour. It would raise questions.”

“Figure it out.” Niles’s sharp tone dared her to argue. “Security. Surely those attacks against Wolfe warrant extra security, right?”

“Britt already brought in extra security. I can’t add yet another. Britt, especially, would find it suspicious.”

This wasn’t working. Niles would only keep pushing, and getting angrier, the longer she defied him.

“Niles.” She shifted from anger to persuasion. “Give me a week. I told you. A plan is already in motion, one that will eliminate Wolfe without any connection to us or the organization.”

Part of her wanted to gloat. After all, leveraging Britt’s vengeful stalker to accomplish their purposes was genius and couldn’t be traced to The Shadows, but she held the words back. Niles would not approve of the lack of knowledge or control she had over the situation.

The pause lengthened. Either Niles was waiting for her to break and say more or he was thinking over her request.

She hoped for the latter. No way was she going to give him the former.

A gusty breath drifted across the line. “One week. If the situation isn’t resolved by next Saturday, he’ll take care of it.”

And she would lose any status or rank she held within The Shadows. Niles didn’t say as much, but she knew it. Her future dreams of power, once The Shadows rose, would be a distant memory.

That wouldn’t happen. If Edmond didn’t step up before Saturday, she would take care of things herself.

“He won’t need to.” She injected confidence into her words. “By this time next week, Britt Wolfe will be neutralized.”
