On 25 March 1741, Castle San Luis De Bocachica was stormed with support from the 20 twenty four pounders of the attached artillery commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Jonas Watson. The artillery created a “breach” or whole in the walls of the fort, which was then attacked or stormed by soldiers, described as “a forlorn hope,” or those assigned a mission they were unlikely to survive. It is apparent from the following account that the Spanish were unable to effectively bring their guns to bear on those assaulting the fort and abandoned the fort to the British. Colonel Gooch was wounded in this action, and it is certain that his Regiment participated in the storming of Castle San Luis De Bocachica.
