“August told everyone,” Amy said, later that night in bed.

Daniel laughed. “Yeah, I know. I had a lot of men shake my hand, and a lot of women warning me.”

Amy flicked her hair off her shoulder and moved closer. “They did?”

“Didn’t you realize that, Amy Flynn, you are a well-liked and loved woman in this town?”

She opened her mouth and closed it. “I had no idea.”

He smiled at her, reaching out, and tucking a stray curl behind her ear. “Well, you are, and the town wants to see you happy.”

She placed her hand on his naked chest. On Mondays, he didn’t keep the bar open too late. In fact, Monday to Thursday, the bar stayed open till eleven, and it was only on the weekends he opened late.

This was during the main summer season. He changed his hours based on the time of year. Around Halloween, he did like the Halloween party festivities. Lost Creek loved to splash out. The kids were able to go trick-or-treating, and then the adults got to play dress-up as well. It was a lot of fun, and he loved doing it.

“Penelope asked me today. Actually, she didn’t ask me, more like told me.”

He ran his fingers down her naked back, going toward the curve of her ass. His reward was when she lifted up her leg, so she had one leg over his hip. He couldn’t resist sliding his fingers down her full thigh, then traveling back up toward her ass. Her body was irresistible.

“Does she disapprove?” he asked. He had a feeling Penelope would want Amy to be on the “I hate Lost Creek” bandwagon, with the hope of leaving some day.

“No, I don’t think she disapproved of anything. I mean, she was nosy, as she always is. Wanted to know if you were good in bed.”

Daniel continued to look at her. Amy sighed.

“She wanted to know how I would react if I found out you were a Reaper.”

He stayed perfectly still, just watching Amy. Being a Reaper he took seriously, and he waited for Amy to continue.

“And what else did Penelope say?” he asked.

“You’re not curious about the whole Reaper conversation?”

“I’m sure you’ll tell me when you’re ready.”

She glanced down at his chest and didn’t lift her head for several seconds. He waited, wondering what was going on in that mind of hers. He always wanted to know what she was thinking and feeling.

“I told her I didn’t care,” Amy said. “That it wouldn’t bother me if you were a Reaper or not.”

“It wouldn’t?”

She shrugged. “I know some people would hate the thought of a bunch of men or women—I don’t even know if there are any women—but, you know, going around town, keeping it clean. I don’t see a problem with that. I mean, I wasn’t aware the town was so bad. I’ve heard the tales of bad stuff happening. Martha, I think, heard us. She remembers.” She tucked her hair behind her ear again. Her hair was so thick, it was refusing to be tamed.
