Chapter 21

Priest pulled up in front of Urban’s house right before Sierra’s taxi dropped her off.

Urban changed directions and walked over to his woman. He was so happy to see her that even after what he had just endured, he couldn’t stop smiling. He gave her a soft kiss on her even softer lips. He gave her a long and firm hug. Holding her made him feel like the world was a beautiful place, even with all the chaos surrounding him.

“Did you miss me?” Sierra said with her own smile on her face.

“More than you know,” he answered, savoring the sight of the beautiful woman standing before him.

“What’s going on?” She nodded at the police car and at the tall man sitting on the hood of what appeared to be an unmarked police car.

“Baby, take the keys to my truck and drive to your place. I’ll explain everything later,” was all Urban said. He pulled the keys out of his back pocket and offered them to her.

“Huh? What are the police doing here?” Sierra asked, with a worried expression, as she reluctantly took the keys from Urban.

“Somebody broke in.”

“What? Are you serious? Were you in the house?” she asked, grave concern etched on her face.

“No, I wasn’t here.”

“Oh, my God!” Sierra almost screamed. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’m fine. I came home and saw a light on. So I called the police. When I went inside, I saw the man, and he ran out of the house. That’s pretty much it, but we’ll talk about it later.”

“Is that him in the back of that police car?”

“Yeah. I think he’s one of Jamillah’s friends, but I’m not sure. He’s not in a talking mood,” Urban said, pointing at the rough-looking man, who was now handcuffed and was being escorted out of the police car toward Priest.

“What in the world is going on?” Sierra said.

“Baby, I will tell you as soon as I know something. I don’t want you to go in the house until I can make sure that it’s safe. So until then, go to your place.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Sierra said, nodding her head. “I’m sorry to keep you.”

Urban could tell she was apprehensive, but given that the dust hadn’t really settled on their last argument, she decided to go along with his plan. “Call me the minute you know something.”

Urban kissed her again, lifted her luggage off the sidewalk, walked her over to his truck, then placed her luggage in the back seat. After she was safely buckled in and was backing out of the driveway, he walked back to Priest, who had the perpetrator penned up.

“Who else was with you?” Priest asked the man.

“I ain’t saying shit,” the man muttered. “Get me a lawyer.”

Priest told the uniformed officer that he would take responsibility for the suspect. The officer balked a little, but Priest motioned him over and led him off to where they could have a few words in private. Ninety seconds later, the officer was smiling and shaking Priest’s hand.
