chapter 13
Stunned, Brady stared after Rosha.
You jerk! he told himself. Whatâs the matter with you? Sheâs getting away! Go after her and make it up to her!
Bradyâs legs finally got the message from his brain. He tore across the street after Rosha and grabbed her arm.
âRosha, Iâm sorry!â he cried desperately. âPlease. I didnât mean to make you angry. I wasnât checking up on you. I guess it sounded like that, but I really wasnât!â
Rosha didnât say anything. But she didnât pull away, either.
âItâs just that I wanted to see you so badly,â Brady continued. âWhen I couldnât find you, I guess I went a little nuts. Then that girl with the scars surprised me, and Iââ He broke off and took a deep breath. âIâm crazy about you, Rosha. Please donât be angry.â
Rosha stared at him a moment longer.
Brady waited, his heart hammering. When Roshaâs lips finally curved into a smile, he felt his knees wobble in relief.
She was going to forgive him!
Everything would be perfect again.
Rosha slipped her hand into his and leaned closer to him. Her silky hair brushed against Bradyâs cheek. It smelled like flowers. âYouâre crazy, all right,â she murmured. âI think it must be that bump on your head. How is it, Brady? Iâve been worried out of my mind about you since the accident.â
With Rosha standing so close, Brady barely remembered the lump on his forehead. âItâs fine,â he told her. âReally, Rosha. Nothing to worry about.â
She squeezed his hand. âI feel really awful about the car, too,â she told him. âI wish I could ask my dad to pay for the repairs. But Iâm already in major trouble with him. If he finds out what happened, Iâm afraid heâll ground me. And then Iâd never see you again.â
She really likes me, Brady thought happily. Sheâs been worried. Sheâs been thinking about me.
He could have floated into the sky.
âDonât worry about the car. The insurance took care of it,â he explained. âHey, what are we doing standing around in the cold, anyway? Letâs go get some coffee or a Coke or something.â
âSounds great,â Rosha agreed. âBut I only have half an hour. I have to get home and start a history paper.â
Brady felt a stab of disappointment. Now that heâd finally found her, he wanted to spend hours with her. Take what you can get, he told himself.
In the car Brady spotted Roshaâs black leather bag on the floor where heâd tossed it. âOh, Iâve got something for you.â He reached over, grabbed the bag, and handed it to her.
âMy purse!â Rosha cried. âIâve been wondering what happened to it!â
âYou left it in the car after the movie,â Brady explained, pulling the car away from the curb. âThe police brought it over the next day.â âThe police?â Roshaâs eyes widened in alarm. âNo problem,â he assured her. âI told them my girlfriend left it there on another date. They didnât have a clue you were with me that night.â Rosha sighed with relief. âThanks, Brady.
