JONES, HARVEY A. (ca. 1838–1863)
Harvey Jones was born in Tippecanoe County in about 1838. His mother’s name was Mary; she was widowed before 1850, but by then Harvey had seven siblings: Albert, James, Deborah, Lewis, Levi, Calvin, and Asa. He spent two years, 1854–56, in the Normal School at Wabash and subsequently became a schoolteacher.
It would appear that Jones enrolled in Company B of the Forty-Third Indiana Regiment on 19 September 1861 at Terre Haute. At some point in 1863 he was detached from his regiment to assist a corporal sutler in the sutler’s quest for supplies, but he died of “bilious fever” on 17 August 1863.
