Potato-Apple Gratin with Ham

1 package (6 to 8 ounces) Au Gratin Potatoes*

4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced

1 cup diced ham

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1-3/4 cups boiling water

1 cup milk

1/3 cup grated Cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Spray a 2-quart or larger casserole dish with oil. Spread dehydrated potato slices in bottom of casserole dish. Layer apples and ham over potatoes.

In a medium bowl, combine butter with boiling water and let butter melt; add milk and packet of powdered cheese and stir well. Pour milk mixture over the contents of the casserole dish. Be sure all potatoes are covered. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes. Remove casserole from oven and sprinkle with grated cheese. Return to oven for 10 minutes, or until liquid has been absorbed and the cheese sauce is creamy. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

*Boxed, dehydrated form. Name brands and store brands work equally well.
