The last bit of activity at what was once the proud home of Marksdale’s premier family was Window-Peeper standing hidden behind the large pine tree that the now departed William Friedrich had planted on the front lawn of the home years earlier. His beady eyes beneath those strange, most certainly non-chic goggles watched Daphne exit with Brad charging out after her several seconds later.

“Well now,” he said to himself with a mischievous grin. “That couldn’t have gone any better if I had written the whole scene myself. Fine show that was! And to think those mortals settle for watching yet another showing of A Christmas Carol as entertainment on this day! Hah! Hah!”

As for Daphne, she continued racing into the night, her state of mind and body ignoring the chilling winds and whipping snow assailing her from all sides. The tears on her pretty alabaster face were crystalizing under the frigid air as she did all she could to escape the nightmare this Christmas had become.
