YULETIDE MASSACRE MELEE

Linda Laughton was not very happy on Christmas Eve circa 1977. She just had a harrowing experience on the opposite end of Detroit in Forest Hill Cemetery. There she and a trio of friends went to search for any clues that may lead to the answer of how her best childhood friend, Carol Anne Nellis, mysteriously disappeared there ten years previous. The end result of that excursion into the unknown was finding a battered, mold-encrusted coin that was given to Linda by her grandfather the Christmas before he died – and which Carol Anne had in her hand when she vanished following a séance in an attempt to summon the deceased man’s spirit in front of his gravesite.

Carol Anne appeared in the graveyard as soon as one of Linda’s friends mysteriously found the coin and picked it up. Only she was no longer alive, and she was not just any type of ghost; she was a hungry ghost, one seeking to induce fear in others and feed upon the emotional residue resulting from the terror. She also blamed Linda for not saving her from whatever took her from this world years earlier – something Linda was genuinely not in the know about, which is something the enraged ghostly girl seemed unable to accept.

To make a long story (or, more specifically, three short stories) shorter, that evening saw a convergence of three deadly beings appearing in Detroit, one of them the aforementioned hungry ghost, and also a man-eating, shape-shifting Hindu demon known as a rakshasa and a psychotic alpha serial killer named Virgil Kennedy, who had just escaped from a mental hospital. During the conflagration in the cemetery, Carol Anne used the coin to transport herself and Linda to the Far East Side of Detroit, where both the rakshasa and Kennedy were wreaking bloody havoc on various targets.

Little were these victims – as well as the predatory demon, alpha serial killer, and hungry ghost girl – aware that their paths were about to converge in a deadly three-way fight to the finish.

No sooner was she transported there, then she regained consciousness to find out that a tall twelve-year-old youth named Lem, who was trying to escape from Kennedy after being shot in the leg by him, stumbled upon the discarded coin which contained Carol Anne’s essence and was in the process of picking it up.

“Lem! Drop that coin, now!” Linda exclaimed as she jumped to her feet to knock it out of his hand.

Her hopes were dashed as the boy looked up at her with a sadistic grin and eyes that were suddenly opaque black. He was now possessed by the twisted ghost of Carol Anne Nellis.

“Hi, again, Linda,” she said through Lem’s larynx. “Did you think you could stop me from punishing you for abandoning me at the cemetery ten years ago?”
