Using The Time Sectors
âYou can't be thinking of everything you have to do at one time. You have to concentrate on just one thing at a time â one project, one job. You have to take it one task at a time. Do what youâve set out to do. Keep your mind only on that one task. Why? If you don't, you wonât accomplish anything.â â Jim Rohn
In this chapter, we are going to look at how to use the time sectors in your task manager.
While your notes app will be where you work on your projects, your task manager is the place where everything starts. This is where you set the action of the work you need to do. Your notes app will carry the details, and your calendar will tell you if you have time to do it.
If you haven't already set up the Time Sector folders in your task manager. now is a good time to set them up.
When setting these up, the best place to begin is with your recurring tasks, and of these, the easiest one is routines. Routines are the things we need to do to maintain our life where it is. Itâs paying bills, taking the rubbish out, washing the car, cleaning your home and other recurring chores that just need to be done on a specific day. It would not be a catastrophe if you didnât clean your home on the day that task turns up, and that is the nature of what a routine task is: it would be nice to complete the task on the assigned day, but it wouldnât be a problem if you skipped it. In essence, this folder is to remind you these little âlifeâ tasks need to be done.
While you can just add a complete list of everything, I find dividing this folder up into three areas helps when it comes to keeping things clean and tight and also makes reviewing this list from time to time easier.
Create three sections or sub-folders for daily, weekly, and monthly recurring routines. If you have annual routines, things like renewing your car or home insurance or making an appointment for your six-monthly dental check-up, you can put these in your monthly routines list.
