âYouâre right. Letâs go,â Kasumi coincided.
Kasumi began walking, but not in the direction of the karaoke bar in front of the station. It was clear she was heading toward the train station itself.
âW-Wait, Shiramori? Where are you going? The karaoke bar is over there,â Soukichi asked.
âOh, did I forget to mention that? Weâre going to a different karaoke bar today,â Kasumi replied
âW-Why?â Soukichi remained puzzled.
âA lot of people from our school use that one. Thereâs a pretty high chance weâll end up running into somebody, especially with it being the weekend,â Kasumi clarified.
â...If you were really so worried about that, then why did we meet up here? Shouldnât we have met up at a less conspicuous location?â
âWell, maybe. But since weâre already going out today, I figured weâd pick a place a decent ways away. Todayâs our first real date, after all.â
Soukichi could only nod in the wake of her dazzling smile. Soukichi had a feeling that their first date wasnât going to be something as simple as heading to a karaoke bar. All of that time and effort heâd spent meticulously planning the date ahead might have been wasted now, but he still found himself excited for the day to come.
âOh yeah,â Kasumi continued as they passed through the ticket gates. âWhat did you tell your folks when you left the house today?â
âI said Iâd be hanging out with a friend,â Soukichi replied.
âOh. So youâre hiding what weâre doing, then?â Kasumi asked.
âI felt like telling them the truth would only cause more problems than itâd solve,â Soukichi explained himself.
âI see... And they didnât suspect anything was going on?â
âI donât think my mom did, at least. She was actually pretty happy to hear that, in fact. She was talking about how I barely ever hung out with my friends, so this was nice to see.â
âAhaha! Got it. Then you donât hang out with Tokiya over the weekend or anything like that?â
âWeâre only school friends,â Soukichi said.
âYour dynamic is pretty unique, I have to admit,â Kasumi quipped.
âMy elder sister seemed a little suspicious. Her exact words were, âWait, youâre hanging out with somebody?ââ
âYou saying that really did get a lot of interesting reactions, huh?â
âWhat about you, Shiramori? Whatâd you tell your parents?â
âI had the same excuse.â
âHow did they respond?â
âThey had the usual responses to that, so I donât think they caught on to anything. My father never really gets involved in my private life anyway.â
â...I see,â Soukichi said.
The two engaged in idle chatter as they made their way toward their platform door. The two were planning to travel to Sendai on one of the trains on Kasumiâs recommendation.
âDo you ever visit Sendai, Kuroya?â Kasumi asked.
âIâve been there once for a field trip during middle school. What about you?â Soukichi replied.
âI go there every now and then, I guess. Sometimes with friends, sometimes with my father,â Kasumi answered.
The train arrived soon after they reached their platform. The doors opened, and the two boarded for their destination. Fortunately for them, the train wasnât too packed; they appeared to have picked the perfect time of day to leave for their date.
