After just one day, the Caid received his answer from the French—it seems they had anticipated his arrangement.

They had agreed to all of his terms. In a day’s time, the French would send two hundred troops, currently stationed at a fort outside of Tangier, along with a convoy of rifles and ammunition. They had even agreed to send him money to pay his troops. Caid Ali Tamzali looked over the agreement with a sinister grin on his face.

It had all worked according to his plan.
