The First of the Red Wolves almost expected to find Diana back out in the hallway again. She was somewhat older, more experienced, and she considered herself to be the big sister to their unit. She always had advice and more annoying questions to ask. Most of the time, Natalie appreciated this. Today, she was almost relieved.

Curious about their status, she made her way up to the cockpit, took a seat, and glanced over at their pilot, Jennimir.

"How are we doing?"

"Ma'am, we received coordinates for the temporary base on Ansion. Right now, we are in stealth mode, and we are moving pretty slowly, just to make sure we aren't being followed."

"Thank you," Natalie said with a curt nod.

"Ma'am?"

"Go ahead," Natalie said.

"Do you, do you mind if I ask what's going on with the prisoner? When I saw that he was wearing a collar, I thought he would be from the Confederation, but we have him as a prisoner, correct?" As the youngest, Jennimir adopted the eagerly deferential tone of a new recruit.

"I haven't decided whether or not he is a spy."

"I see…"

"Do you have something you want to say?"

"Well, I was just wondering…" Again, the pilot allowed her voice to trail off. "It's going to be a while before we make it to our rendezvous, and the ship is already set to auto pilot."

"You want to go talk to him for yourself," Natalie said, finishing the idea for her pilot.

"Only with permission," Jennimir said. "Of course, I completely understand if you intend to claim him for yourself and want to keep him untouched for the time being."

Natalie blinked, took a second to process those words, and she finally threw her head back and laughed. "No, I'm definitely not going to be claiming him. As far as I'm concerned, he's just a stray. In fact, I'm looking forward to seeing him sold off, assuming that's what happens to him."

"I've never been with a boy from the Duchy," Jennimir said. "Have you?"

"Never," Natalie said with just a hint of distaste. "In all honesty, I haven't met a boy who really interests me. In the Duchy, they are unnecessarily defiant and cruel. In the Confederation, they've been trained, but they don't have anything interesting to say. I can understand why they make good servants, but what's the point of getting to know them? What's the point of trying to share any real intimacy?"

Jennimir glanced back down at one of the sensor displays, although nothing had changed as they slowly flew across the surface of Ansion. Beneath them, trees lazily drifted from side to side with the breeze, streams dribbled down hillsides, and everything seemed so beautifully unsullied by human exploration or colonization. So really, there was no reason for the pilot to keep her gaze locked on those sensor readings until she finally asked, "Is it okay if I speak freely?"

"Go for it," Natalie said.

"Personally, I have had a lot of fun with our Confederation boys. I mean, they can be so eager to please, just like puppy dogs.
