No place is perfect. You and your parent may see opportunities to improve something at his or her new home, but your parent may hesitate to speak up when he or she moves to a new place. If that is the case, do it for him or her. When my father moved to the assisted living area, he liked to sit outside on a second-floor porch until well after midnight. The aides kept insisting he go inside. So I asked management why he couldn’t stay out late. It turned out the staff just wasn’t used to seeing residents out of their rooms after 8:30.
