The Belt That Saves

Janet Miller was not a woman to be trifled with, something that many married men and naughty boys found out to their chagrin when running afoul of her teachings and dictates in the church where she was pastor. Railing against sin and moral decay from her high wooden pulpit in front of the congregation each Sunday, she would thunder forth on the need for women to take charge of their lives and be the ones who led the family from darkness into light, from moral laxity to proper love and respect for all and obedience to scripture. That was over five years ago, and in that time Pastor Miller had transformed both the church and the congregation into a smoothly run harmonious operation. She was a stickler for the literal truths she found in the bible, and although a woman was thought to be subservient to a man in most church teachings, she argued that it was the natural order of things for the woman to take control in the household. No effort was to be spared in ensuring the males of the family toed the line and if they strayed, a good session with a strap would bring them right back! It was a harsh mindset, but one that must have been of some value as the divorce rate for her congregation was the lowest in all of the state. Even the grade average of the young people rose to a new level and all agreed it was because of the strict discipline and righteous teachings employed and preached by Pastor Miller.
