Miss Brewbaker shrugged. “It is only something I whipped up. Besides, Halloween is my favorite holiday.”

Liza picked up her gym bag and took one last look at the beautiful gingerbread house before walking down the hall. “Good-bye, Miss Brewbaker,” Liza yelled as she pulled open the back door.

When the door opened, Merlin darted in with Prince Diamond close behind.

“Diamond, get out of here!” Liza cried, racing after the big spotted dog. Both animals ran straight into the kitchen where Merlin jumped on the counter behind Miss Brewbaker. Diamond skidded to a stop and cocked his head. Before Liza could reach him, Diamond jumped up and licked Miss Brewbaker right across the nose. Miss Brewbaker wiped her face and pointed a skinny finger at Diamond before saying in a singsong voice:
