Launch Folder Windows In A Separate Process When selected, runs in a separate process each time it is opened. Otherwise, Windows runs all instances of File Explorer in the same process.

Pro Tip Although opening folder windows in a separate process requires more memory and generally slows down the process of opening new windows, it also means that each instance is independent of the others. Thus, if one instance crashes or hangs, it generally will not affect other instances of File Explorer. Also, if you often perform large file transfers using File Explorer, these transfers won't effect other File Explorer windows. Keep in mind that although using the same process saves memory and generally speeds up the process of opening new windows, it also means that all instances of File Explorer are dependent on each other. As a result, if one instance crashes, they all crash, and if one instance is in a pending or wait state, all instances could become locked.
