In Eq. (4.3), Co, WT, Co, Batt, Co, INV, Co, CC and Co, BOS represent the capital cost of the wind turbine, battery bank, bidirectional inverter, charge controller and balance of system components, respectively. Further AOMWB is the annual operation and maintenance cost of the entire wind-battery system. The annual operating and maintenance cost of the system is taken as 2.0% of the capital cost (Nouni et al. 2007). The balance of system costs consists of site preparation, installation and commissioning charges and is assumed to be 10% of the total hardware cost. CRF is the capital recovery factor which is the function of discount rate (d) and life of the equipment (n) and is used to convert present value of a capital investment into equal annual payments with a specified interest rate.
