“Third time’s the charm,” Jace—make that Rico—murmured, as he placed his hand on her back.

Millie hoped so. She clasped her right hand with his.

Dancing in front of the judges and camera had been hard enough the first two times. Now with patrons, people who knew how to tango, in the bar sipping drinks and watching them, and her foot throbbing with pain, she didn’t know if she could do this.

She didn’t have to, she reminded herself.

Evita did.

Evita could.

Millie took a deep breath, something hard to do in the tight fitting dress she wore. The plunging neckline and slits on the side left little to the imagination. Not that the men staring at her seemed to mind. Or Jace.

She looked up at him, handsome in his flowing blue silk shirt and black slacks and shoes. “Let’s show ’em what we’ve got, Evita.”

He pulled her close, her chest pressing against his. He might look cool and calm, but the rapid tattoo of his heart told Millie he was nervous, too. She took comfort she wasn’t the only one.

All she had to do was remember what the judge had told them. Feel the music. Follow his moves. Communicate emotion with motion.

Listening to the opening strains of the song, she focused on Jace. Something shattered near the bar. Millie bit her lip.

He winked.

She forced a smile.

“Remember, it takes two to tango,” he whispered in her ear, his warm breath, a caress against her neck, sending tingles racing through her.

He stared at her as if she was the only woman in the world and he wanted her.

Bad.

She gulped.

Evita wouldn’t gulp. She would…

Millie raised her chin, puckered her lips and kissed the air next to his cheek. “For luck.”

His eyes darkened. His jaw tensed. She sensed the tension in his arms.

Evita wouldn’t make it easy for him. She would taunt, tantalize, tease.

She lifted her chin, arched her back to align her hips with his. Her breasts thrust forward, pressing closer against him.

“How badly do you want it, Rico?” she whispered.

At his sharp intake of breath, she turned her head quickly away from him.

The show had begun.

He took a step forward with his left foot. She stepped back with her right. Around the floor they moved.

He stalked like a panther on the hunt for his prey. Aggression, power, passion.

The music seeped inside of her, the rhythm flowing through her body like the blood in her veins.

The steps melded as emotion took control of the motion.

His fiery gaze locked on her.

She shimmied, turned and twisted away from him. He was going to have to work harder if he wanted to catch her.

Pulling her to him again, he rocked back so her chest lay across his. Heat burned between them. She pressed her cheek against his.

Time stopped for an instant.

Then she was back on her feet moving away. His confidence and strength were contagious. But he didn’t let her get far from him. He pulled her close. She went willingly, wrapping her right leg around his hips and leg. He spun them around.
