The network constructed from these leader-follower relations is hierarchical, in which the position of a given dog correlates with rank (dominance), age, trainability, controllability, and aggression. (These values were derived from personality questionnaires.) According to these measures, there are some personality traits that tend to characterize the leader (dominant) dogs: they were found to be more controllable, trainable, aggressive, and also tended to be the older ones.
