Who’s, ‘we’?!! Don’t think you’re worming your way out of that one!

For some reason I don’t want to tell her; I’m still not ready to share Gerren yet. So I text back:

Really nothing to tell. He’s the campsite owner’s nephew. Brae knew we didn’t have much food, so he sent him with some sandwiches. He was there when Jake ran off. Call you later xxx

I’ve lied to Liv. It’s only a silly lie, not terrible in the scheme of things, but we’ve always told each other everything as soon as it happens. My emotions are on a roller coaster already, without me adding to it. The lie darkens my mood again.

Jake pushes a piece of paper under my nose. “Jake did writing.”

I pick up the bit of paper and peer at the confusion of wiggles and random dots.

“That’s great writing, Jake. What does it say?”

He puts his finger on the paper and taps it randomly. “Jake…Maudie…love.”

I burst into tears. There’s no way I’m going to let them separate us. We need each other.
