1) An e-commerce company can go directly to the consumer (DTC), selling from its own website and shipping from its own warehouses.

2) The company can send its inventory to Amazon (or others like it), who will display the product and also fulfill the logistics and delivery.

3) The merchant can sell on Amazon as in #2 but handle fulfillment internally via shipment of goods to customers.

4) A retailer can buy inventory from the merchant and assume all of the risk in selling. (Of course, this traditional path is present outside of online channels.)
