For Dru Blackpool, it was becoming second nature, opening these locks. This latest one was normally used to secure closets, chests or other items used to keep valuables. He unlocked three this morning and one even set with a poison needle, and although no poison was actually used, Dru was becoming good at unlocking devices. Yet this was not all his master taught him. Dru was becoming skilled at finding hidden passages, moving with stealth and developing his senses.

Dru mused about how he came to be here in the first place. With his father knowing and endorsing such training, Dru reasoned it was to give his angry father some reason to be proud of his son perhaps, but why learn on the island in the pirate isles with pirates, thieves, angry clerics and wizards? What was his father’s original purpose for him and this training? All that did not matter now he knew. Dru was given a new mission or at least the objective. He and Bjorn were being trained to avenge Leif. But was odd was the training did not seem to change, but instead it intensified.

Dru then turned sensing a presence in the room. The door, locked before was now slightly ajar and so he quickly scanned the room. His master was in the far dark corner.

“Your capabilities seem to be progressing well, but your situational awareness still needs perfecting,” said the assassin known as Damon Crag. Damon, an expelled from the Knights of Uden, or so rumoured, was a well-kept man of black hair and a goatee to match. “You were so deep in thought a stumbling drunk could have got in here and killed you before you even picked that lock.”

“I knew you were there…master,” lied Leif who said it thick with sarcasm and a dismissive hand.

Dru had an air of arrogance due to his father’s station in the military. Normally Damon would not let any pupil talk to him with such disrespect; however, Dru Blackpool was the nephew of Anthon Blackpool, Damon’s handler regarding the Shadow Company and Dru knew it. Otherwise, Damon would have smacked Dru across the back of the head with his blackjack.

“It is time for young Blackpool, for the next part of your training,” stated the assassin throwing Dru a small bag of metallic items, more locks for sure, upon Dru’s workbench. “I also expected you to be finished with the locks by now,” continued Crag but his voice trailed off seeing that Dru was finished and with more locks than expected.

Dru didn’t miss the trailing voice and turned to his master with a smile.
