VALLIP

Katya, Tsar Xerk’s second female mate, comes by and carries on a strange conversation with Jamison, inviting Fifa to play with the blue orclings in The Forgotten Room. Fee excitedly accepts, grabs her brown domestic fur sphere, and bounds away, leaving my side to be with the strange feline. Jamison went with her, promising me he’d be back soon.

Now I’m alone and full of edginess. Jamison trusts Katya and his shipmates, but I know little about them. Fifa has never been out of the confines of being the clan leader’s daughter. A very high position to have in our underground home. But here, she is less than nothing—a mere child from an enemy clan.

No one has to inform me that these orcs care nothing for us. I know these facts as truth. During our journey to the mountain, Charken informed me of things Xerk had figured out in his investigations up to that point. He had been investigating why their blue orceresses were dying off. Although the whole story is a bit complicated to wrap my mind around, the simplest form is that the Red Eyed Orc Clan was knowledgeably responsible for killing off their female populace.

The other reason my Fifa and I are enemies here is that the only thing the blue orcs know about us is that our race is brutal, enjoys inflicting pain, and wants to take over their mountain. The bulk of these orcs have no idea that the females of my clan are gentle. We are victims. Though we have yellow skin and red eyes, we are entirely dissimilar to our male counterparts.

We’re also different because the females in my clan have a phallus. And supposedly, other females on this planet, and other planets, do not. At first, I believed that having a lying, vulgar mate was the worst thing ever to happen to me. But now, I don’t even know if I like myself… which is far worse. I don’t want to be different. Yet under the safety of this mountain, that is all I am—an outcast.

Cleaning the area around Charken’s new dwelling, I adjust the clean furs he dropped off on the two beds. My orc has also brought a big copper pot, glass decanters, and a basket full of leaves to wipe with. My job is to place these new items around his new home. This dwelling is like a fantasy. There is a window where the actual suns’ light shines through. The living space has a spare room in the corner, which holds one large bed.

The main living area holds another bed, a long wooden table, bench seating, a hearth, oversized chairs near the window, and a waste bowl… which I have never seen before.

In my old home, we used clay pots with lids to relieve our waste, and the males emptied them daily, exchanging them for clean ones. Astonishingly, this central room also has flowing water from a spout.

Tears spring to my eyes as I move around the space, understanding how isolated I’ve been my whole life, not knowing such things existed.
